Swimming history In 2002, Johan Kenkhuis seemed done with his swimming career. The winner of the gold medal in the 100 and 200 freestyle at the 1998 European Junior Championships couldn’t make enough progression to keep himself motivated
But Kenkhuis fought back, trying a new type of training with his coach Fedor Hes. He focused more on dry land training in stead of swimming. This new approach, brought him to the sprint elite at the 50 freestyle, finishing fourth in Barcelona by only 0.01.
In Sydney Kenkhuis was member of the bronze winning 4x200 freestyle and has played an important role in the freestyle relays ever since. His fastest relay split is 47.89, set during the World Championships in Fukuoka, where his team became second in the 4x100.
